The ANNUAL Members Meeting was held on April 26th at
Big Hollow School at Rt. 12 & 134. Thanks to the efforts
of homeowners who collected proxies AND a recent change
in State Law that allows us to use minimum state
requirements for meeting quorum, we were able to call
the meeting to order and hold elections.
John Flader and John Gutknecht were re-elected to the
Board along with new board member Jennifer Williams.
Jennifer is also the president of the Natures Cove Town
Home association.
Copies of the minutes will be available after they
are approved by the Board.
Following the Annual meeting the new Board adopted
the fees and fines schedule for violations of covenants.
Copies will be sent to all homeowners and these will go
into effect on May 26th.
If you have any questions about the meeting, or other
feedback, please contact us using our
feedback form, or send us

For those who missed it,
we're happy to report that Cosmo now has a new home.
A big SPECIAL THANKS to
Valley Lakes Resident Susan Ziegler on Windsor Drive
for arranging the capture. Susan contacted Linda
Wallace, the director of training at Toucan Dive
shop and told her about Cosmo's plight. In the
matter of a couple of days Linda and Susan arranged
for a team of 12 trained scuba divers to come out to
the pond with their nets and capture Cosmo.
He didn't go willingly.
As the divers found out, Cosmo is an expert diver.
The trapper we hired reported that Cosmo would dive
underwater and swim underwater 10 feet away to
escape his net. Sure enough as the divers approached
Cosmo and surrounded him with a long fish net that
hung below the water, he either jumped over their
heads, or swam under the net coming up 10 feet
behind them.
After about 5 or 6
attempts, one of the divers finally caught him as he
tried to make his escape. Within less than 30
seconds he was safely locked away in a crate and on
his way to a water fowl sanctuary in McHenry County.
Special thanks to Round Lake Police Chief Foy for
arranging Cosmo's new home.
Sadly it was too late to
save Wanda, but Cosmo is off to a safe and happy
home where he won't freeze his feet off as the
temperatures continue to drop.
So, anyone who knows
Susan be sure to give her a big thanks. And if
you're driving by Toucan Dive shop in Lake Villa,
stop in and say thanks.
They've got a website at
www.toucandive.com if you're interested. They
train most of the divers for local fire departments,
very nice people.
Way to go Susan!!!

Events page for full details
Round Lake Park District Fall Country Festival and Craft Show
The Fair will be held on September 26th from 11:00 am - 4:00
pm at the Round Lake Area Park District Community Center, and
will be part of their 9th Annual
Fall Country Festival. Traditionally well attended by people
from the Round Lake area and our surrounding communities!
September Mailing
All homeowners should have received a mailing around September 18th with the
following information:
Fall Planting Update
Fall will soon be “officially” here and it’s a great time
to plant landscaping. Remember that any major landscaping plans, including grade
changes, or removal of any trees requires advance approval from the
Architectural Review Committee.
The Board has approved a fall planting program for our common areas which should
be well underway by the time you read this newsletter. Our landscaping
contractor is planting almost 100 new and replacement trees, shrubs and
perennials. They are also completing a weed and plant management program around
all of the ponds. This program will remove undesirable plants such as
cottonwood, willow saplings, canary reed grass, cattails and purple loosestrife
to encourage the success of native plant establishment.
Let us know what you think of the changes and any suggestions you have for
spring planting.
Holiday Decorating Contest
Are you interested in helping us organize an annual Valley Lakes Holiday
Decorating Contest ?
We’re looking for volunteers to help us plan and organize this event. If you’re
interested in helping plan this exciting event, please call the office,
send us an e-mail or
sign up online.
More details on how to enter and a list of prizes will be in our November
newsletter.
Open Space Concerns
Occasionally members of the Board along with our property
manager, landscaping and environmental consultants walk the open space to check
the health of the ponds, wetlands, woodlands and public areas. Over the past few
months it’s been noted that there has been significant encroachment by some
homeowners into these common areas.
Homeowners are not allowed to convert any portion of a common space for personal
use, nor may it be used as a storage or dumping area.
Please help preserve the open space areas in Valley Lakes for the enjoyment of
all residents and wildlife.
